Special Report - need your donation

(01/14/2011)

Just imagine if your loved one or family members pass away or go through life-threatening injuries due to a car accident. What will you face as a consequence?

There were five Taiwanese students who originally planned to take a Thanksgiving trip together from Minneapolis to Mt. Rushmore. Unfortunately, because of the icy, wet road conditions, the rental car slid into a ditch and rolled over about eight miles west of Vivian, South Dakota. Mr. Robert (Ching-Tang) Hsu was pronounced dead at the scene. Two female students suffered severe life-threatening injuries. They were originally transported to St. Mary’s Health Center in Pierre, and then transferred by helicopters to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls for further operations.

Paula, who suffered a severe injury to her lower spine, was discharged and transported by an ambulance back to Salina, Kansas, where Kansas Wesleyan University is located, in order to continue her rehabilitation. Since Annie was hurt from her waist down and the doctors in McKennan could not reconnect the nerves in her spine, she will spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair. Because she has been pursuing a MBA degree in the US by herself, her family has decided to continue her treatment and rehabilitation in Taiwan. The medical expenses for both Annie and Paula are huge. Currently, Annie’s expense is over $400,000, not including her SOS airplane transportation to Taiwan and Paula’s medical expense exceeds $250,000 and increasing.

To assist the families with covering some of the medical expenses, Kansas Wesleyan University has set up a fund-raising account for Annie and Paula. Any amount of money you’re able to contribute will be greatly appreciated, and will go a long way toward helping Annie’s and Paula’s recovery. Thank you in advance for your willingness to help support their medical expenses. Please make out your donation to Kansas Wesleyan University - credit or debit cards are accepted, but they would incur a 3% convenience fee. Simply designate for Paula (Pei-lin Ho) and/or Annie (Hsin-yu Ku) and mail to Wayne Schneider, Kansas Wesleyan University, 100 East Claflin Ave, Salina, KS 67401-6196. If a receipt is needed, please attach the name and address of the donor. The school will mail a receipt to the donor.

For more information about the accident, please refer to South Dakota State News Web through http://www.state.sd.us/news/showDoc.aspx?i=12779. If you have any further questions, please contact Portia through whsu@student.uiwtx.edu or Kansas Wesleyan University 1-800-874-1154 or kwaynes@kwu.edu. Thank you very much for your kindness. Your donation can make an immediate impact.
