(02/12/2011)
Dear CAPA members,
We are saddened to inform you that Dr. Hoom-Bin Lo (羅鴻炳博士) passed away
in Houston on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, after a long and brave
battle with lung cancer. Hoom-Bin was one of the founders of CAPA, as
well as a best friend and a multi-term EC member since the beginning
of our association.
Hoom-Bin was graduated from the Geology Department of the National
Taiwan University in 1968, later a TA at NTU, and received his PhD in
geology from West Virginia University in 1977. He was with Exxon
Production Research Company for 20 years until his early retirement in
2000. He was well known for his significant contributions to the
advancement of petroleum geochemistry. In addition to his various EC
tenures, Hoom-Bin was instrumental in establishing CAPA's
communication and computer network. Hoom-bin also served as executive
secretary for OCESTA in 1988-1989, as a board member and treasurer for
NTUAAH (休士頓臺大校友會) for many years, and was very active in other
community associations, such as the Hakka Association of Houston
(休士頓客家會).
He will be remembered not only as a loving husband, father, and an
inspiring teacher, but also as a great CAPA contributor for his
devoted services and pioneering work that path the way for today's
CAPA.
He is survived by his wife, Cecilia, and daughter, Tiffany Lo.
