HAVE A ‘HOPPY’ FATHER’S DAY WITH THE HOUSTON ZOO
Honor Dad with a TOADally Awesome Father’s Day Gift
Name a Houston Toad After Him

(HOUSTON) May 23, 2011 … Dad’s big day is coming up on June 19. If you’re stumped for a Father’s Day gift this year, why not give your dad the ultimate honor and name a toad after him! Not just any toad. Oh, no! This is an endangered Houston toad currently being raised at the Houston Zoo.

From now until Father’s Day, when you make a donation of $50 or more to support Houston Toad conservation at the Houston Zoo you can name one of our 2,500 resident Houston toads after your dad. It’s a gift your dad will never forget and you’ll be helping to preserve one of the most endangered species in Texas.

In recognition of your gift, you'll receive a link to instantly download a printable gift certificate for Dad, as well as more information on the Houston Toad, and some fun toad activities you can do with your dad at home.

Your gift of...

$50 - could help put a toad back in the wild through our head-starting program

$100 - could help provide one of our resident toads with a year's worth of crickets

$250 - could help plant enough trees to restore an entire acre of toad habitat

Bring dad to the Zoo to meet the Houston toads! The Houston Zoo is celebrating A TOAD-ally Awesome Father’s Day on Sunday, June 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – a day filled with crafts, activities, toad information and more. All activities are free with your paid Zoo admission.

So, make it a ‘hoppy’ Father’s Day. Give Dad a gift that will TOADally impress him while preserving one of the most imperiled species in Texas.

Ironically named the Houston Toad, this Texas native disappeared from Harris County several decades ago as a result of prolonged droughts and habitat loss. Today, less than a few hundred remain in the wild, and they can only be found in a few counties in east central Texas.

But all may not be lost for our city's amphibian namesake. The Houston Zoo has been working with state and federal agencies, nongovernmental organizations and Texas State University to return the Houston Toad to its historic range. And with your support, a unique part of our Texas heritage can be saved!
