Mayor Parker Designates Environmental Settlement
to Benefit Local Charities

(08/23/2011)

Pleasantville Healthy Breeze Project, Houston Arboretum & Nature Center to Receive Proceeds

In line with Mayor Annise Parker’s continuing effort to enhance Houston’s environment and to address the acute health and safety needs of its citizens, environmental penalties received from a local company will now be directed to two local entities. Under an agreement the City reached with Blentech Corporation, which resolved certain violations of local environmental laws, Pleasantville Healthy Breeze Project and the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center will receive more than $5,000 each.

Charity Productions administers the Pleasantville Healthy Breeze Project, which purchases and installs air conditioning units for low-income and disabled citizens. The Houston Arboretum and Nature Center is a non-profit urban nature sanctuary. Its 155-acres protect native plants and animals near Memorial Park.

“This company made a few mistakes, but they are making an effort to redeem themselves by investing in local causes,” said Mayor Parker. “I am pleased some good can come of it this time, but I do not want to see it repeated again.”

Mayor Parker continues her efforts to educate Houstonians to change everyday practices to help create a safer, cleaner, greener environment for the city of Houston.
