FEB 17 Hiring Deadline: Need 16 Bilingual English-Chinese Early Voting Clerks

Today I was notified that all early voting clerks MUST BE HIRED BY FEBRUARY 17. The early voting period for the April 3 primary is March 19 to March 30. Based on our estimates of Harris County registered voters with Chinese surnames, we have 16 early voting locations that must be staffed with a bilingual English-Chinese election clerk.

The clerks’ primary function will be to assist the polling locations’ Presiding Judges with the conduct of early voting for the primary. Bilingual clerks may provide language assistance to limited English proficient Chinese voters only if requested by the voter.

Because the new deadline is 2 weeks earlier than originally expected, I am asking for your help to find civic-minded individuals to apply to be early voting clerks. Early voting clerks should meet all of the following requirements:

1. Must be registered to vote in Harris County.Verify your voter registration information here:

o http://www.hctax.net/voter/voter.aspx#NSearch.

2. Must be willing to commit to working the entire 12-day early voting period of March 19-30. Early voting hours are tentatively set for these times:

o March 19-23: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
o March 24: 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
o March 25: 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
o March 26-30: 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

3. Must attend 3-hour scheduled training at 11525 Todd Street, Houston:

o Your training day will be on March 9 or 12-15 and will be scheduled according to your State Representative District polling location.
